Premium Top-Class Infotainer: The Z-N966 from ZENEC
ZENEC’s 2-DIN car radio wins „Best Product“ accolade in test by German Car & HiFi magazine 06/20
With the Z-N966 the Swiss multimedia specialist ZENEC now has a 2-DIN DAB+ infotainer with an extra large 9″/22.9 touchscreen in its product range. The complete package of Z-N966 plus navigation software, obtainable separately, has been tested by the German Car & HiFi magazine in issue 06/2020, and they are impressed: „The new moniceiver from the ZENEC Prime series shines with its large high resolution display and a great set of features, including CarPlay and Android Auto“. This verdict from the testers wins the the new ZENEC car radio the „Best Product“ accolade in the Top Class category.
HIGH DEFINITION ON THE ROAD
One of the highlights of the new multimedia system, according to Car & HiFi, is the high definition 9″/22.9 cm display: „With 1280 x 720 pixels it is among the sharpest moniceivers on the market. In the TV sector a resolution like this is called ‚HD-ready‘. If you consider that this would already achieve a good quality on much larger television sets, then it is easy to imagine what sharp, crisp images are possible on the ZENEC, which is small in comparison.“
PRIME INFOTAINMENT
The Z-N966 is also a hit with the testers with its infotainment functions: „With the twin tuner it can deliver crystal clear reception of digital radio stations, and with DABDAB Service-Following, MOT Slideshow, DLS Text and Comfort Scan it offers all the associated comfort functions.“
Two USB ports for A/V playback and connecting smartphones, Bluetooth telephony and music streaming, along with full Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support make the Z-N966 a „premium top class infotainer“ for the well-respected tech journalists.
„The audio features of the Z-N966 satisfy every possible requirement“, say the testers. „The Expert mode allows numerous sound parameters to be set.“ In addition to a 10-band equalizer, crossovers and subwoofer control, the time alignment particularly stands out: „This allows, among other things, optimization of staging and the dynamic response of the sound system.“
COMPREHENSIVE SAT NAV
Car & HiFi is also full of praise for the optional navigation packages: the Z-EMAP66-PC3 for cars, and the Z-EMAP66-MH3 and -MH7 versions specially developed for motorhomes. „In addition, they offer vehicle profiles for entering height, length, weight etc. and include a very comprehensive package with camping-points of interest together with details“, explain the experienced testers. „The MH3 gives you free map updates for three years, and the MH7 a whole seven years.“
ALSO IDEAL FOR MOTORHOMES
The integrated motorhome functions are also able to impress the journalists – for example, the facility to stream music from the Z-N966 to Bluetooth headphones and speakers: „This is very practical if you want to enjoy your music or listen to the radio outside in the sun. To achieve the maximum possible Bluetooth range the Z-N966 has a BT antenna at the rear of the housing.“
But that“s not all, there is also another innovative feature that simplifies operation of the unit enormously, according to Car & HiFi: „With the free Remote app, basic functions like selecting a source and volume can be controlled from the smartphone.“
SUMMARY
„Superb large display, huge range of functions and outstanding performance in all areas“, is the final verdict of the testers. „The ZENEC Z-N966 is an absolute premium infotainer that has no need to shy away from any kind of comparison.“
The brand Zenec stands for pure in-car multimedia. Moniceivers, naviceivers, monitors sum to a well rounded portfolio of in-car products. Added to that are accessory components like rear view cameras. All Zenec devices are perfectly compatible with one another.
The Zenec multimedia range is perceived to follow the edge of technology, but also to stand out with an exceptional price/performance value. Yet, quality before quantity is the other important maxim given, Zenec is strictly adhering to.
In 2008, Zenec brought the first E>GO model onto the market, thereby immediately establishing a completely new category of device: the vehicle-specific naviceiver.
