NBA zur Primetime: diesen Samstag und Sonntag

Auch an diesem Wochenende gibt es wieder zwei NBA Spiele zur besten deutschen Sendezeit. Am Samstag (10.03.18) kommen NBA Fans um 23:00 Uhr mit der Partie Phoenix Suns vs. Charlotte Hornets auf ihre Kosten.

Am kommenden Sonntag (11.03.18) wird um 20:30 Uhr das Spiel Golden State Warriors vs. Minnesota Timberwolves im Rahmen der NBA Sundays übertragen. NBA Sundays sind auch in dieser Saison wieder Spiele zur Primetime, jeden Sonntag kostenlos auf spox.com.

Über die Warriors:
So dominant, wie in den vergangenen Jahren, sind die Golden State Warriors in dieser Saison nicht. Die Houston Rockets haben dem Team aus Kalifornien den Rang abgelaufen und könnten zu einer wirklichen Gefahr für die Warriors in der Western Conference werden. Trotzdem gilt: Die Dubs müssen erstmal geschlagen werden, wenn es in die Playoffs geht.

Auch wenn Kadertiefe ein großes Thema in der NBA geworden ist, bleibt Golden States All-Star-Quartett mit Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green und Klay Thompson immer noch das Nonplusultra der Liga: ein unglaublich vielseitiges Komplettpaket. Ein gesunder Steph Curry spielt immer auf MVP-Level; ebenso Durant, der sich zu einem der besten Verteidiger der NBA gemausert hat. Dazu Greens Energie, Defense und Spielverständnis, die einfach überragend sind. Und Thompson ist einer der besten Schützen dieser Ära. Meister-Coach Steve Kerr tut sein Übriges dazu und es braucht nicht viel Fantasie, um sich vorzustellen, dass die Warriors ihren dritten NBA-Titel im vierten Jahr holen.

Die Spieler auf Golden States Bank sind ein bisschen älter geworden, auch ist die zweite Garde der Dubs lange nicht so ausgeglichen, wie in den Jahren zuvor. Aber Andre Iguodala und Shaun Livingston sind immer noch kampferprobt und können ein Spiel entscheiden. David West war famos, in den Minuten, die er auf dem Court stand und auch Rookie Jordan Bell, der erst vor Kurzem nach einer Knöchelverletzung zurückkehrte, kann sich mit seiner Energie und der Fähigkeit, mehrere Positionen zu verteidigen, zu einem Schlüsselspieler in den Playoffs entwickeln.

Über die Timberwolves:
Die Minnesota Timberwolves spielen ihre beste NBA-Saison seit 2004 und sind auf dem besten Weg in die Playoffs. Es ist aber mitunter ein steiniger Weg, weil Jimmy Butler den Wolves mit einer Knieverletzung fehlt. Denn das Team braucht Butler, so viel ist sicher. Der vierfache All-Star macht den Unterschied aus in seinem ersten Jahr in Minnesota: Die Wolves haben bis zum 6. März 2018 schon mehr Spiele gewonnen als in der kompletten vergangenen Saison. Butler ist zuversichtlich, zu den Playoffs wieder auf dem Feld stehen zu können.  Zusammen mit Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins und Jeff Teague hoffen die T’Wolves weiter Schritt zu halten im Westen der Liga, wo zwischen dem dritten Platz und dem zehnten nur drei Siege unterschied liegen.  Neu-All-Star Towns ist der fünftbeste Rebounder der Liga (12,2 rpg) und der zweitebeste Scorer in seinem Team (20,4 ppg). Die Verpflichtung Butlers bedeutete für Wiggins, dass er weniger Würfe bekommen würden, trotzdem erzielt er gute 17,9 Punkte pro Spiel. Und Teague erfüllt solide seinen Job, führt die Mannschaft mit fast sieben Assists pro Partie an (6,9 apg).

• Timberwolves Team Leaders: Jimmy Butler (22,2 ppg); Karl-Anthony Towns (12,2 rpg); Jeff Teague (6,9 apg)

• Die bisherigen Begegnungen: Diese Statistik geht klar an die Warriors, die bislang beide Aufeinandertreffen in dieser Saison gewinnen konnten. In der vergangenen Saison gewannen die Wolves auch nur eins von vier Spielen.

Die Schlüssel zum Spiel:
Beim 126:113-Sieg gegen Minnesota am 25. Januar trafen die Warriors 21 Dreier – Saisonrekord für Golden State. Dabei erzielte Durant sechs seiner neun Versuche von draußen und verzeichnete einen Triple Double mit insgesamt 28 Punkten, elf Assists und zehn Rebounds. Towns erzielte in Abwesenheit von Butler 31 Punkte für die Wolves. Auch wenn Minnesota mit Towns Vorteile in der Zone unter dem Korb hat, ist es schwierig für die Wolves zu gewinnen, wenn die Dubs von außen heißlaufen.

• Tom Thibodeau, der Headcoach der Minnesota Timberwolves, war von 2014 bis 2016 Assistenz-Trainer der US-amerikanischen Basketball-Nationalmannschaft. Zusammen mit Durant, Thompson und Green holte er Olympisches Gold bei den Spielen in Rio de Janeiro. 2014 wurde er zusammen mit Curry und Thompson Weltmeister beim FIBA Word Cup in Spanien.

• Warriors Co-Trainer Ron Adams war drei Jahre lang Assistenz-Trainer von Thibodeau bei den Chicago Bulls (2010 – 2013).

• Jamal Crawford spielte in der Saison 2008-09 54 Mal für die Golden State Warriors – dabei jedes Mal als Starter. Er kam auf 19,7 Punkte, 4,4 Vorlagen und 3,3 Rebounds in 38,6 Minuten pro Spiel.

KEVIN DURANT

Q. As a leader, can you talk about social media?
KEVIN DURANT: Yeah, for sure. I feel like everybody has a voice, and especially with our own platforms we can use our voices for good. So it’s not just me. I feel like everybody in this room has a voice, and it’s getting louder and louder every day. So we’ve got to speak what we believe in. We’ve got to speak our truths and got to keep it real out here, because there’s a lot of fake [stuff] going on.

Q. What was the feeling when you had your first NBA Championship, going from a kid dreaming of owning that trophy and you got that opportunity?
KEVIN DURANT: As a kid, I dreamed about being the best player I could be, and whatever came after that, it came. The championship was fun, it was cool to experience it, but I had to wake up the next morning and figure out how I was going to get better and what’s next for me. I couldn’t just chill because I wanted to chill. I had to keep going.

Q. Coming from a father, as a kid, what do you tell the next generation?
KEVIN DURANT: Man, work on your game. It’s always about the game. Don’t let the extra stuff get in the way of the game. It’s all about the fun and enjoyment of playing. So get on the court, get out in your communities, play with your friends, that’s how we built the love. We were outside all the time. I don’t see that a lot with the kids. So just go find a court and go hoop, man. That’s what it’s all about.

STEPHEN CURRY

Q. Would you say the 2015-16 season is when the Warriors played their best basketball? Is that the best you felt?
STEPHEN CURRY: It’s hard to argue with a 24-0 start and 73 wins. Coming off a championship the previous year, obviously we didn’t get it done in The Finals that year, but I think to sustain that over 82 games was pretty remarkable. Every year is different. I think you can fall in love with the 73 number and not really think game by game did we play our best? Probably not. But we got wins. We found ways to kind of claw our way to the top in most of those games. But last year we won the championship. We had a different type of journey, but I felt really great about it. This year we’ve had a pretty solid season, but feel that we can play a lot better. So that’s what we’re trying to do this next 20 games before another championship run.

Q. Do you ever watch Messi play in Barcelona?
STEPHEN CURRY: Yeah. Who doesn’t watch him? Is that a question?

Q. Can you kind of feel or see yourself as somewhat comparable to Leo Messi, not being the strongest athlete on the court, but with really great, huge amount of ability that defies in some way the prototypical player of their sport?
STEPHEN CURRY: Yeah, I think it’s the creative genius to what he does and a flair, but also there is a fundamental aspect to the flair. The work that he puts in, I’m assuming, based on the talent that he has, and combining that with the talent that he has and how that kind of shows when he’s out there on the pitch, right? So I think there’s a lot of comparison, really, around the creativity and the innovation that we bring to our respective sports and trying to, I guess, impact – I would say influence the next generation to try to push themselves as well.

DRAYMOND GREEN

Q. What’s been your impression of the Celtics?
DRAYMOND GREEN: I mean, they’re a very good team. They’re young, this is their first year together. Obviously, Kyrie is one of the few guys, if not the only guy, with championship experience. So it takes a little experience to kind of figure things out. I think they went from going into the season with Kyrie and Gordon [Hayward] and Al [Horford] kind of expecting to be really good. With young guys like Jaylen, Jayson Tatum, expected to be really good. Then Gordon went down, and then there were no expectations for them. And they completely outplayed that. So then it’s a different thing. Now all of a sudden everyone is gunning for you, and that takes some adjusting to. So I think they’re just adjusting to it, but they’ll be fine. Everyone hits that rough patch in the season. I think it’s just that’s what they’re going through right now.

KLAY THOMPSON

Q. Who is the biggest pro wrestling fan on the Warriors?
KLAY THOMPSON: The biggest pro wresting fan I know is Mychal Thompson. On the Warriors? That’s a great question. Probably — I don’t know. Probably like Steph.

Q. With Gronk and Ronda Rousey and everyone else starting to go into WWE, which NBA player do you think would have the best (indiscernible)?
KLAY THOMPSON: Probably Draymond and DeMarcus Cousins just because they have the attitude for it. I think they’re good entertainers. Maybe Joel Embiid would be good, too, because he’s a monster of a man. So there are so many good options. There are a lot of guys with great personalities in this league who shine
on that kind of stage.
